Twilio SMS
Connect Twilio Account SID, Auth Token, and an SMS-capable number or Messaging Service so Zyelra can send SMS and receive delivery status webhooks.
Available with provider requirementsSupported, but an external account or verification is required. What this connection does
Twilio SMS lets Zyelra send text messages and update delivery status from Twilio webhooks signed with your Auth Token.
- Outbound SMS from Zyelra Messaging and automations.
- Delivery status updates via signed webhook.
- Requires your own Twilio account, credentials, and SMS-capable sender.
Before you start
- A Twilio account (trial is fine for testing; production needs a verified/upgraded account and compliant sender).
- Ability to buy or port an SMS-capable phone number, or use a Messaging Service SID.
- Permission to manage Settings → Messaging & Delivery → SMS.
Connect Twilio
- Step 1In provider
Create a Twilio account
Sign up at Twilio and complete any required identity checks for your region. Open the Twilio Console.
- Step 2In provider
Copy Account SID and Auth Token
On the Twilio Console account dashboard (Account Info), copy Account SID and Auth Token. Treat the Auth Token as a secret — do not share it.
- Step 3In provider
Get an SMS sender
Buy or assign an SMS-capable phone number, or create a Messaging Service and copy its Messaging Service SID (starts with MG). Confirm the number/service can send to your target countries.
- Step 4In Zyelra
Connect Twilio in Zyelra
Go to Settings → Messaging & Delivery → SMS → Twilio. Paste Account SID, Auth Token, and your From number or Messaging Service SID. Save.
- Step 5In provider
Point inbound SMS at Zyelra
In Twilio Console → Phone Numbers → your SMS number → Messaging, set “A message comes in” to Webhook → HTTP POST → {your Zyelra API base URL}/api/v1/webhooks/communications/twilio. Zyelra verifies Twilio signatures using your Auth Token. (Outbound delivery status is sent automatically; this step is required for replies to appear in Messaging.)
- Step 6In Zyelra
Send a test SMS
Use Test send to a phone you control. Confirm the message arrives, then reply to that number and confirm the reply appears in Messaging → Inbox.
POST {your Zyelra API base URL}/api/v1/webhooks/communications/twilioVerify
- Twilio shows connected in Settings → Messaging & Delivery → SMS.
- Test SMS delivers.
- A reply to your Twilio From number appears in Messaging → Inbox.
- Delivery status progresses (queued → sent → delivered / failed) after status callbacks.
Troubleshooting
- Auth failures — regenerate Auth Token in Twilio Console and update Zyelra; ensure Account SID matches the same account.
- Undelivered to a country — check number capabilities, Messaging Service geo permissions, and Twilio error codes.
- Replies never appear — the Twilio number’s “A message comes in” webhook must POST to the Zyelra Twilio webhook URL (status callbacks alone do not create inbound messages).
- StatusCallback / invalid URL — set PUBLIC_API_URL (or TWILIO_STATUS_CALLBACK_BASE_URL) on the Zyelra API host to your public HTTPS API origin. localhost is rejected by Twilio.
- Status stuck — confirm the webhook URL uses your Zyelra API base and that Twilio can reach it publicly.
- Trial limitations — Twilio trial accounts can only message verified numbers until upgraded.
